The Battle of The Five Armies, Broken Down | An Infographic

My wife and I (along with my sister-in-law) spent the holiday season in California this year. And while we did the obligatory trips to Disneyland in Anaheim, and Universal Studios in Hollywood, we nevertheless managed to catch a screening of The Battle of The Five Armies— the final installment in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, at a nearby AMC Cinema.

Just like anything I totally geek about, I’ve read and re-read the final chapters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel– which is really a fairly short read, but you do have a great deal of material online about the titular five armies:  the dwarves, the elves, the people of Lake-Town, the orc-and-goblin horde, and then Beorn and the eagles.

The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) comes into force today, ushering in a new era for the business sectors in the 10-member countries.


The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was declared by the ASEAN Leaders in 2007 to take effect on January 1, 2015. It was six years in the making and preceded by phased liberalization in trade in goods, investments and services. AEC should have been a culmination of all these years of efforts at opening up the economy in the region for members.

The ASEAN 6 or the original ASEAN member countries — Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei — already eliminated 99 percent of all their tariffs. The other four members CLMV — Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam — are given enough time to adjust.

The region’s liberalized economy amid its varying levels of economic development has become a magnet for foreign businesses to invest in. Investors can locate in one country and export to the rest of the region, tax free. Its sunrise economies are Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
