Renzie Goes To General Santos City (and Meets Manny Pacquiao)

"God's Timing Is Perfect." That's what it says on Manny Pacquiao's shirt when we met him in General Santos City last weekend.

That's me and my colleague (Renz Mar), hanging out with Manny Pacquiao for a quick business meeting. Taken at Pacquiao's residence, in June 2018.

My colleague and I flew in from Manila to do a business presentation with Manny Pacquiao and his team. So we didn't really get to do much of sightseeing other than rushing off to hang out with Team Pacman while he's doing his daily routine.

What’s The Big Deal About Blockchain?

Experts and industry insiders call it "the next generation of the Internet", a game-changing technology that many predict will have a far-reaching impact across not just businesses and industries, but also across societies and world economies as well.

"The beauty and innovativeness of blockchain for many is its unchangeable nature," explains Hayk Hakobyan. A business expert, advisor and speaker, Hayk Hakobyan advises in AI and blockchain and worked with SMEs and MNCs across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Think of the blockchain as a public ledger, but with the added functionalities of cryptography and a decentralized peer-to-peer network approach. The result is a distributed and immutable record which, as Mr. Hakobyan points out, can now hold all sorts of data. More than just digital currencies, goods, services, and other assets can now be exchanged without the need for centralized authority or traditional institution that normally acts as intermediaries to these kinds of transactions.

Brilliant Example of Crisis Management From KFC

In light of the "Cats of BGC" brouhaha that's been all over the news lately,  marketing practitioners have been shaking their heads somewhat on how a seemingly small issue snowballed into a PR nightmare for the brands involved.

And so when a brilliant example of crisis management has caught our attention, we can't help but hope that media/comms agencies and teams can learn from this shining piece of marketing gold.

The story is this: due to supplier issues, a number of KFC stores in the UK were forced to close-- because they had no chicken to cook and sell.

Jasmine at New World Hotel Makati

Since we were celebrating New Year 2018 at the New World Hotel in Makati City, we thought we might as well try out their popular Chinese restaurant, Jasmine, at the second level.

All decked out and ready to celebrate the New Year!

Jasmine offers authentic Chinese dishes created by renowned Hong Kong chef Wong Kam On. New Year's Eve was a particularly busy night for the restaurant, but we nevertheless got an 8PM reservation, allowing us lots of time to enjoy a nice leisurely dinner.

Our New Year Celebration 2018

New Year 2018 at the New World Hotel.
It's Baby Pablo's first New Year celebration! We're gonna have a good time tonight. Let's celebrate. It's alright!

We decided to leave Tagaytay as early as December 30 and check in to a hotel in time for the New Year festivities. We initially had a booking at New World Hotel in Manila-- that one closer to Roxas Boulevard and Manila Bay.

I’m Pretty Handy with WordPress

I’ve been working with WordPress for over 10 years now. In 2007, I started using WordPress.com (in fact, you could still find my old blogs online), and found that it was a robust and highly-customizeable content management system. While it wasn’t as simple as Blogspot (now Blogger) or Livejournal back then, WordPress has withstood the test of time, and continues to evolve and grow in popularity so that more than 60 million websites around the world now use WordPress.
