I’ve been working with WordPress for over 10 years now. In 2007, I started using WordPress.com (in fact, you could still find my old blogs online), and found that it was a robust and highly-customizeable content management system. While it wasn’t as simple as Blogspot (now Blogger) or Livejournal back then, WordPress has withstood the test of time, and continues to evolve and grow in popularity so that more than 60 million websites around the world now use WordPress.
In 2011, I was working with more self-hosted WordPress websites– mostly small businesses and personal brands. At about the same time, I was also making the transition from HTML to HTML5, as well as CSS to CSS3. A short time after, I’d pick up bits of PHP as well. I would know enough about setting up, maintaining/managing, and even migrating WordPress sites. I’ve got enough know-how to beef up security, boost search-engine friendliness, and build child themes.
Most of the work I do with WordPress involves creating and managing content: usually in the form of original posts, curating articles from the internet, and repurposing/integrating social media posts into the website. Developing content also entails a significant amount of internet research, a lot of search engine optimization, and quite a bit of Photoshop (for branding/editing/resizing photos and graphics).
Indeed, WordPress for me has turned out to be quite the labor of love. I still take WordPress courses on weekends to take my current skills to the next level with deeper dives into WordPress development, SEO, and ECommerce. I hope to build themes from scratch, make my own plugins, and even develop mobile apps that tie in to my sites soon.
I’m also hoping to establish a sort of local community of WordPress users in Tagaytay– great for networking, learning, and sharing all sorts of WordPress-related stuff.
